Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions and border closures in place across multiple states and territories, SLSA will postpone the Australian IRB Championships until September (9-12) at the same location in the Hunter region of NSW.
Surf Life Saving Australia National Sport Manager Wayne Druery said that due to the current circumstances it is in the best interests of our members, volunteers and officials to reschedule the national championship to a later date.
“We have been closely monitoring the situation unfolding around the country and have made the decision to postpone the event until September,” Druery said.
“Surf Life Saving Australia, volunteers and officials have been working very hard to ensure that we are delivering a COVID-safe event that still incorporates all of the elements that we love about our Australian IRB Championships.”
Surf Life Saving Australia will also continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation in consideration of the 2021 Pool Rescue Championships and the 2021 Coolangatta Gold, both scheduled to take place in August (6-8) and October (16-17) respectively on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
At this stage there are no changes to these two events, but should circumstances require any change or adjustment, it will be communicated accordingly.
