The week-long intensive course sees young surf lifesavers travel from as far afield as Mandurah in Western Australia, Goolwa in South Australia, Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland and New Zealand.
The National Leadership College (NLC) is an annual leadership and development program recognising young leaders in Surf Life Saving (SLS) who are between the ages of 20 and 30.
Participants come from a variety of clubs, roles and SLS backgrounds are recognised and nominated by their peers, clubs, branches and states to participate in the national program.
The NLC provides an exciting opportunity for members within the movement to further develop their leadership skills and continue to positively contribute to the success of SLS.
SLSA Chair of the Development Advisory Committee Nancy Joseph said, “I have the amazing pleasure of spending a week with our finest and brightest lifesavers from all over Australia at the National Leadership College.”
“The program and experience have a profound impact and make a difference to all those who attend,” Nancy said.
“One of our attendees from last year’s National Leadership College Mat Harper, went on to win the prestigious SLSA Lifesaver of the Year award in 2019 and has returned this year as a keynote speaker.”
Each day includes keynote speakers, elective sessions, activities and challenges relating to the leadership theme of the day.
The NLC is designed to challenge participants intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically with participants taking the skills they learn back to clubs and into other areas of the participant’s daily life and to contribute to the overall SLS movement.
The National Leadership College will run from Sunday 2 February till Friday 7 February and will end with a special dinner on Friday night before the participants leave for home on Saturday morning.
