at Coolangatta Beach, as one of the youngest and oldest competitors of this weekend’s Coolangatta Gold.

A Coolangatta Gold tragic, Don Marsh has made the journey by car from Tasmania to Queensland this week only arriving late today to delivering all the Tassie Surf Life Saving Club’s equipment ahead of the race.

Marsh has taken on the legendary 41.8km long course from Coolangatta to Broadbeach since 2008.

For Sophie, who will start in the Youth Challenge course on Sunday as one of the youngest competitors she hopes it will be the first of many.

“I am so excited about this weekend and I just want to try my hardest and do my best,” said Sophie.

“I’ve been training all winter for the Coolangatta Gold and some of my girlfriends from the surf club are doing it too, so it’s going to be so much fun.

Sophie will line up on Sunday with 300 youth competitors to take on a 300m soft sand run, a 400m swim, 400m run, 500m board and then a 50m run to conclude under the elite finish arch.
